Tougher Penalties Against Offenders Who Flout WSH Rules
Do you know that there has been changes to the Workplace Safety and Health Act in November?
The maximum fine for companies that causing workers in significant danger has raised from $20,000 to $50,000. Even for companies that yet causing accidents at workplace, MOM will still take tougher punishment against those companies should they disregard workplace safety and health rules.
The maximum fine of $50,00 will apply to offenses that are egregious first-time ones — which could cause death, serious injury or a “dangerous occurrence”: For example,
- failing to put in place protective structures, such as barriers at “open sides” to prevent falls
- failing to appoint authorized individuals to supervise hazardous work
