Workplace safety trainer jailed 10 months for forging course certificates, safety passes
On 18th Jan, a workplace safety trainer was sentenced to 10 months’ jail due to the fact that he forged course certificates and safety passes for construction workers.
Based on a statement from MOM, Ramanathan Thamilselvan, a trainer at Work Safe Consultants, had sold Building Construction Supervisor Safety certificates and safety passes to workers without conducting any training and assessment, which resulted in a charge for the fraudulent practices under Workplace Safety and Health Act.
There were another two directors from separate training providers also sentenced to 10 months’ jail under the Act last year. They are from Maha Safety Training Centre and Pioneer Skill Training Centre. Under Section 53 of the Act, offenders may be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to 6 months, or both.
In its statement, MOM said all fraudulent certificates issued by the three training providers have since been cancelled. It has also revoked their status as accredited training providers.
